Dear Altheans,

Breaking up is hard to do.

When Dr. Jonathan announced he was leaving Althea, I felt sad, hurt, angry, confused. On top of so many changes in the last year with COVID and shutting down in-person gatherings at Althea, yet another demand was thrust upon me, seemingly unjust and unbearable, and I whined, “But I don’t wanna change!” Regardless, change is the nature of life.

With change comes uncertainty. We naturally want to fill in blanks, and being creative beings we supply our minds with answers to questions. But we’ve seen what happens when misinformation is allowed to prevail: unnecessary and harmful chaos.

Allow me to clear up some confusion that has been bouncing around our community.

  1. Althea is in decent financial shape. We aren't rolling in the dough, but we aren't even close to destitute. We ended the year breaking even, almost totally due to the generous contributions of our members and two Payroll Protection Plan loans, the first already forgiven. No one’s salary was reduced one dollar! Considering the last 12 months, these facts are astonishing!

  2. Tim Wilson’s generous offer to match funds for an insurance payment is his affirmation of the Law of Abundance and tithing to one’s spiritual home. Althea paid the bill in January; Jonathan’s departure has nothing to do with Tim’s challenge to the community.

  3. To avoid future confusion, you can come to us with any rumors, questions, concerns, or fears. Send them to admin@altheacenter.org. Replies will come from the Board.

Please give the Board time to formulate a plan—we’ve been thrown for a loop, too—which we began to build at a special meeting last week. We pledge to communicate often, quickly, and accurately. Soon, we will ask for your help and ideas.

In the meantime, let us remember Althea is a community, not one person. Let us bless Jonathan on his new journey, feel happy for his good fortune, and express gratitude for his service. Let us breathe and embody peace. Let us affirm our strength and Oneness with each other. Let us practice our spiritual principles to align ourselves with Infinite Creativity in order to manifest the next fabulous phase of Althea!

In gratitude,

Rick Kitzman

President of the Board

"Service is the Loving Energy of our Interconnection made visible.

Be generous with the world and the world will become

beautiful and abundant for you."

At Althea we do things differently. Rooted in a philosophy of Oneness - God is All - we believe that each person must chart and weather their own unique spiritual journey. In our experience of Spirit as oneness and connection we uncover our gifts, find peace, have fun, and help make the world a better place for all.

We are not a conventional church nor even a typical center. We are a dynamic, diverse, evolving community, committed to supporting, inspiring and challenging all who seek to embrace an expansive way of being and a joyful experience of life.

We offer a Sunday 10:30 am service and many classes, workshops and special events throughout the week - from yoga to meditation, spiritual psychology to chanting and movie nights.
